Core Functions of the University

In 1999 the University of Michigan went through an extensive planning process to prepare for the Y2K rollover and potential problems that could have arisen. As a part of that process, University Executives provided the following list of priority activities and functions that must continue at the University. These priorities are as applicable today as they were at that time, and can be used by units in preparing their own continuity plans for the pandemic disease scenario.

•  People:
Health and safety of faculty, staff, students, hospital patients, contractors, renters, and any other people on University
   premises.

•  Health Care:
Delivery of health care and hospital patient services: admissions, diagnostic tests, outpatient appointments, surgery & other
   procedures, patient records availability, etc.

•  Research:
Continuation and maintenance of research specimens, animals, biomedical specimens, research archives.

•  Academics:
Delivery of teaching/learning process and student-related services: registration, faculty assignments, classroom scheduling,
